(2) Making Products that Spread like Wildfire
Making Products that Spread like Wildfire
Creating products that spread like wildfire involves taking an approach that is opposite to focusing on "unsexy" businesses. These products feel novelty, fun, simple, and unnecessary, but people feel the need to share them with others. They are not hyper-optimized for profitability, but their ideas are strong enough to create conversations and drive conversions. Three examples of such products are Pear, a ring that aims to end dating apps; Die With Me, a chat app for people with low phone battery; and @me, a live chat room app with a 90s feel. These products share key elements such as shareability, name virality, and conversational marketing. While lightning in a bottle products might not be the next Instagram, they have the potential to make a social statement and become the topic of conversation.
